When you’re editing sound, timing is everything; a few missing seconds in a clip can completely interrupt the rhythm of a story. Generative Extend (GenExtend) for audio fixes that instantly. Introduced earlier this year in Premiere Pro, GenExtend lets creators add up to 10 seconds of natural-sounding audio to the beginning or end of a clip, without expensive re-recording or awkward loops. Built using Adobe Research’s advancements in audio generation — including the same foundation behind the sound effects generation model — GenExtend gives storytellers a powerful new way to maintain continuity across their edits.
Adobe Research scientists and engineers from the Sound Design AI (SODA) group developed a model designed to extend sound while preserving its natural tone and texture. GenExtend doesn’t simply repeat past audio; it understands the structure, rhythm, and atmosphere of a clip. It generates new, context-aware material that seamlessly continues your recorded audio while preserving the ambience, quality, and even stereo imaging — all without introducing distracting or undesired sounds. It’s a leap forward for sound designers, video editors, and podcasters, removing a persistent editing frustration so they can focus on shaping higher-quality content.
